...AND WE'RE BACK!

Okay Architectureandfootballaholics, It's been a good two months + since my last posting and FINALLY someone has said something about the lack of additions, so we're back giving you yet another catch-up (katsup? That was stupid.) on the life and times over here and Architecture and Football.

As you remember from the last posting, the Missus and I have packed up and moved to Chicago, Illinois. We left Brooklyn on June 13, and have recently been crashing at the vacant apartment of an aquaintence in Edgewater (about 30-45 minutes from downtown Chicago by public transit). We've started working at a large firm in the city and are slowly beginning to enjoy it and get to know all of our coworkers. We've recently put an offer on a condo very near our office in River North, and hopefully we'll be moving in sometime in mid-August.

After the move and before starting our new jobs, we took a belated honeymoon to Europe, where we went to Rome, Florence, Como, Vals, and Zurich.

Keep your eyes peeled for my full-length book on this trip, as it would take no less than 4 volumes to reach the depths of wonder and amazement of how flippin' awesome that trip was.

The dawn of the 07-08 Premiership season is drawing near. This has been a very exciting offseason for NUFC, with many new arrivals and departures. Obviously, Big Sam has arrived and completely changed the outlook in and around the club. Quickly, we'll go over some of the more notable arrivals:
1) Joey Barton. Midfield.

This guy is a sad excuse for a human being. Newcastle fans, being humans before fans (for the most part) weren't too excited to see him come, but if anybody can straighten him out, it'll be big Sam. Anyway, if he goes to jail in the next few months there's a clause in his contract that says we don't have to pay him so it's not all bad. At his best, he's a very instinctive center midfielder who can lead a team to victory.
2) Mark Viduka.

Australian striker, getting a little old, but the guy knows how to score. Not flashy, not the quickest, but he can fill Sir Alan Shearer's roll like nobody else. And when he gets teamed up front with either Andy Carroll, Shola Ameobi, Albert Luque, Obafemi Martins, or Michael Owen....well, that's one heck of a strike force.
3) David Rozehnal.

Defender from Paris St. Germain. An experienced, big defender who will add stability and intelligence at the back. Just what our sad back line needs.
4) Geremi.

Another experienced ex-Chelsea player who can come in, play anywhere on the pitch and make a difference.
5)Goings-out: Scott Parker and (possibly) Kieron Dyer. Parker left to West Ham for a large load of cash, and while I liked his spirit two years ago, he wasn't helping the club last season, once he got the captains arm band. And if he can't contribute as the captain, he doesn't deserve to wear the shirt. As for Dyer - he's a brilliant player if he stays fit and happy, but can't seem to do both. Again, we'll be able to get a load of money for him, and once we do, hopefully sign a left back. (And while we're at it, hopefully we can get rid of the midget Stephen Carr.)

This has all happened partly to the departure of the evil Fat Freddy Shephard, and the arrival of billionaire sporting tycoon Mike Ashley. He's a bit of a recluse when it comes to public appearances, but he's built his immense fortune around sports, and it seems like he's a good man for the job. He muscled the pathetic Shephard out of his post as basically his first order of business, so I think every Geordie will have him in their hearts. We still have some work to do before the season starts, but if all stays the same, here's my opinion on a starting lineup.

Given
Solano - Taylor - Rozehnal - Geremi
Milner - Emre - Barton - Duff
Viduka - Owen

Bench: Harper, Babayaro, N'Zogbia, Butt, Martins

So our first match is August 11 against Bolton. More to come on this wonderul topic.

On the architecture end of the spectrum, not much new work to speak of from Plex, unfortunately, due to our move and seemingly endless state of flux. But here are a couple little things:
- I have a new obsession with architect Peter Zumthor, after staying in his Therme Vals bath house in Switzerland. Please google it and enjoy. And please, if possible, go there for a few days to experience relaxation in the most true sense of the word.
- Mrs. Architectureandfootball spoke with her old boss, Hani Rashid, for the first time in a couple years today, for something completely unrelated to architecture. It was actually very funny and a pleasant surprise.
- We've spent most of our time thinking about how we're going to alter our new condo if we actually ever get it. Boy, are some wonderul things in store!!
-I'm planning on beginning my teaching career this fall at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I'll be teaching graphics and animation software for the first semester, hopefully will begin teaching studios in the next year or so. With the new arrival of the infamous Bob Somol to the chair position from UCLA, there are very interesting times ahead at UIC and I'm happy and excited to hopefully become a part of it.

Please leave a comment or two since it's been a while since I've heard from some of you.
