Twitter

What's up with Twitter? Who out there Tweets? How did we allow this thing to become a common verb? I'm a bit disturbed that this new "language" has become so ubiquitous - although I must admit at times I'm very drawn to the software and want to begin using it.
Although if I did, I would imagine I would probably never write anything, but just follow people. Is that how it works? Can I just pick and choose? I don't even know.
But to hear all these celebrities and (gasp) news presenters using the word "tweets" on nationally-broadcast public television and radio just makes shivers run up and down my spine.
